http://heron.hortical.com/ Le service Éducation à l'environnement de la ferme du Héron a surtout un programme d'activité avec les centres de loisirs et les écoles primaires et maternelles de la ville. Depuis peu, il s'élargit progressivement à d'autres publics : adultes, familles, pré-ados, retraités... Il travaille en étroite collaboration avec les services Espaces verts et Développement durable sur la « gestion différenciée » à Villeneuve-d'Ascq. Animations nature, éducation à l'environnement local (école, quartier urbain...), au cycle de l'eau, à la gestion des déchets aux inventaires biologiques (faune et flore et leur évolution)... La ferme du Héron tente d'investir toute la ville avec toutes les préoccupations liées aux environnements — majoritairement urbains — des habitants. Le service est héritier de L'AGPHIE (Association de gestion du parc du Héron et d'initiation à l'environnement), association dissoute en 1998.
